Let’s talk about turning a seemingly mundane area of your kitchen into something that really pops—your sink! It might sound a bit odd, focusing on making a kitchen sink look stylish, but trust me, it can transform the vibe of your kitchen. From my own experience redesigning my kitchen, I learned that a well-styled sink area not only enhances the space but can also become a surprising focal point.

Start with the Right Position

When I was redesigning my kitchen, I placed my sink next to the window to take advantage of the natural light. This position not only provides a pleasant view while doing dishes but also highlights the sink area. If you’re at the planning stage, think about where your sink goes; it’s more important than you might think!

Consider the Kitchen Theme

Think about how your sink area integrates with the rest of your kitchen. I’ve used color schemes and materials that complement the broader style of my home, creating a cohesive look that feels intentional and curated.

Choose a Stylish Sink

Your choice of sink can significantly influence your kitchen’s aesthetic. From traditional Butler-style sinks that add a quaint charm to modern, under-mounted designs that are sleek and streamline the countertop, there’s a lot to choose from. Materials matter too—ceramic gives a timeless look, stone adds rustic charm and stainless steel offers practicality, though it’s not everyone’s cup of tea for style.

Tap into Style with Your Faucets

The taps (or faucets) you choose can be a game changer. Nowadays, you can find taps in various styles and finishes, from classic bridge mixers to more contemporary designs that offer functionalities like boiling, chilled, or sparkling water on demand. These fixtures not only need to be functional but should complement the overall design aesthetic of your kitchen.

Incorporate Personal Touches

Making your sink the star of the kitchen is all about personalization. I pinned postcards around the sink area, which not only covered up an unsightly job done by the builders but also added a personal touch that people seem to love. Washi tape is great for this—it’s less permanent and doesn’t leave marks.

Add Accessories

Accessories can make a huge difference. Here’s how I spruced up my sink area:

Elegant Hand Wash: A chic bottle of hand wash enhances the sink’s appeal. I use a beautifully designed Italian glass bottle and refill it as needed.

Art and Nature: Inspired by others, I’ve leaned framed art on the counter and incorporated natural elements like plants. These touches bring life and personality to the space.

Functional Decor: Items like natural linen tea towels, a sleek soap dish, vintage jars for holding utensils, and stylish sink caddies can be both practical and decorative. I swapped out plastic brushes for bamboo ones and kept my cleaning tools tidy but aesthetic.

Think About the Practicalities

Practical aspects like the placement relative to food prep areas, the type of material for your countertops around the sink, and the durability of these materials are crucial. Engineered quartz, for example, is fantastic around wet areas because it’s durable and easy to maintain.

Don’t Forget About the Maintenance!

Maintaining the stylish look is just as important as setting it up. Use grout pens to keep the tiles looking fresh, and choose darker grouts that don’t show stains easily. Keeping the sink and its surroundings clean and tidy goes a long way in maintaining its aesthetic appeal.
